EIAgen Ferritin

brief description

Ferritin is the primary physiologic storage protein for iron. The ferritin molecule consists of a 445 kDa protein shell (apoferritin) composed of "heavy" and "light" subunits, which surrounds a crystalline core containing iron oxide and phosphate. A saturated ferritin molecule is estimated to contain 4000-4500 ferric (Fe3+) ions. Ferritin is synthesized in the liver, spleen and numerous other body tissues; major concentrations are found in the liver, spleen bone marrow, and intestinal mucosa. Ferritin may comprise as much as 20% of spleen dry weight. Ferritin synthesis is stimulated by iron at the translational level, apparently by regulation of iron response element binding protein (IRE-BP) which inhibits translation of accumulated ferritin mRNA in the presence of low cytosolic iron concentrations.

intended use

EIAgen Ferritin is a direct solid phase enzyme immunoassay kit for the quantitative determination of Ferritin in human serum or plasma
