EIAgen PSA EQUI

brief description

Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) is a 33 kDa glycoprotein belonging to the kallikrein family of neutral proteases. PSA is responsible for the liquefaction of semen after ejaculation. It is produced by prostatic epithelial cells and is present in seminal fluid and in lower amounts in serum and urine. Other sources of PSA include the periurethral and perirectal glands. In serum, most of the active PSA is complexed with the serum protease inhibitor a1-antichymotrypsin (ACT) and, to a lesser extent, with other serum proteins, including a2-macroglobulin and a-antitrypsin inhibitor. Serum also contains unbound PSA which may be a zymogenic or other enzymatically inactive form. The sum of the free and the ACT-bound fractions constitutes the total immunoreactive PSA.

intended use

The EIAgen PSA Equi kit is intended for the quantitative determination of Total PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) in serum.
