EIAgen Toxoplasma IgA

brief description

Toxoplasma gondii is a ubiquitous protozoa which causes infection in all species of mammals. In man, serological studies have shown that a high percentage of the adult population becomes infected by this parasite. The disease is particularly dangerous during pregnancy, being transmitted from mother to fetus and causing serious malformations.

For this reason it is important to determine the antibody titer at the beginning of pregnancy; those subjects who do not present immunity should be followed up with frequent analyses to check for serum conversion (1). The assay of the IgA is of particular importance in establishing serologically the acute phase of the disease.

The test is based on the ELISA technique (Enzyme linked Immunosorbent Assay).
